Northbrook Velodrome Poster

Hot off the press, this brilliant poster by Jay Ryan of The Bird Machine celebrating this year's track season at Ed Rudolph Velodrome in Northbrook, IL. The poster are very limited. Any details on how to get them will be posted as soon as we hear.

[update] The posters will be for sale at the track on Thursday race nights. There may be a few available on Jay Ryan's page soon, but your best option is to head up to Northbrook to get one and check out the racing action at the same time.

Surprise!

This guy won. Fingerbang not shown.

Also, "fat tires" won our Fantasy Tour de France competition, so send us your address buddy, and we will send you a prize. Eventually.

Jerome was kind enough to add some hi-res version here. Thanks Jerome!

Vintage Cavendish

Here are some pictures of Mark Cavendish rocking the vintage look for a photoshoot in GQ, originally posted here.

Northbrook action in the Chicago Tribune

The Chicago Tribune sent some people up to Ed Rudolph Velodrome in Northbrook the other week to check out the racing. Watch the video here.

The brilliant photo above is by Ed White. More of his track racing photos here.

Olympic Gangster

This book sounds mental. It's the story of José Beyaert, professional cyclist and Olympic road race champion, who also just happened to be an "emerald-trader, logger, smuggler, and perhaps even hired killer." The book is written by Matt Rendell, who also wrote a brilliant biography of another of cycling's great characters, Marco Pantani, so I'm sure it's great. Heard it recommended by David Harmon while listening to him and Sean Kelly on Eurosport covering yesterday's stage of the Tour.

Renshaw Headbutt!

Here's a picture of Mark Renshaw headbutting Julian Dean in the final sprint of today's stage of the Tour de France. Renshaw was disqualified from the stage and kicked out of the entire race for this:

Oh... wait... that's Robbie McEwen headbutting Stuart O'Grady in an earlier Tour de France! McEwen was disqualified from the stage for his headbutt, but was not kicked out of the Tour. Harsh on Renshaw?

Also, what is with these Antipodeans headbutting each other all the time? As Chopper Read might say, settle the fuck down!

Colorado’s Third Velodrome Coming Soon

Colorado will be getting it's third Velodrome soon.
The track in Erie will join Boulder Indoor Cycling, a smaller indoor velodrome that opened less than two years ago in east Boulder, and the 333-meter 7-Eleven United States Olympic Training Center Velodrome in Colorado Springs, which was built in 1982, according to the Daily Camera.

Text from BRAIN.

Hey Colorado, take it easy alright? We get it- you're into bikes... How about letting some other states get a single track before you start working on backup velodromes, ok?

More info here.

The very first dirt jump bike park in the city of Chicago, The Garden, is about to officially open, and it's going to be great. Head over to Clark Park, which is basically next door to Lane Tech, on July 31st and check out the jumps. You should even be able to try out part of the park for yourself. All the details of the park and the opening event are here.

Track Racing at Northbrook and Kenosha

Ed White took some great photos of the action at Northbrook last night, and at Kenosha earlier in the week. Here are a couple of his photos:

Al Urbanski of WDT, racing the Six-ElevenBicycle Co. bars that he won at VeloCity.

Josh Ryan of Bouledogue Tout Noir pacing behind Tony the derny guy at Kenosha.

Henry Loud of Team Pegasus in front of Ed White of Bouledogue Tout Noir. But if Ed's in the photo, how did he take it? Simple: he is magic.

Check out the rest of Ed's photos here.

A response from all the Haters.

Brilliant photo of Cav doing what Cadel Evans does best:

That is all.

In Your Face, Haters!

Brilliant photo of Cav doing what he does best, taken from the equally brilliant CyclingTips blog.

Brooks Colt

Apparently Brooks are re-releasing their Colt saddle, originally released in the 70s, in a range of new colours. Pretty cool. They look a bit like a narrower version of the Selle San Marco Regal. Ouch.

Seen over at Selectism.

USA! USA! USA!

Happy 4th of July from Hipster Nascar!*

*Well, mostly from me, that American half of HN and to a lesser extent, Simon...

Also! Don't forget to sign up for the Hipster Nascar League in the Versus Tour de France Fantasy Cycling Challenge! We finally got the password all sorted out- it's "doping4eve"

Second Annual Fantasy Tour de France Competition!

The Tour starts tomorrow, so we're running another fantasy competition, very like the one we ran last year but even more disorganised! Go to the Versus fantasy cycling page here, set yourself up an account, and join the private group named HipsterNascar. The password to get into the group is: doping4eve. Then pick your roster, and watch as Wiggo fails to earn you a single point outside of time-trials! The prizes have yet to be determined, and will probably consist of bits and pieces of rubbish that Aaron and I find in Roanoke thrift stores. Good luck!

UPDATE: The correct password to join the HipsterNascar league is "doping4eve". Little known fact: Simon is a huge fan of the Ruff Ryder's First Lady, Eve.

Sorry for any confusion!

-Aaron

In my defence, I didn't realise that my original choice for the password, doping4ever, would be too controversial for Versus. Pat McQuaid probably complained about it or something. But it is true, I do have a thing for Eve, so it all works out nicely!
