What the hell?!

So I was brunching it up this morning, reading the paper and stumbled upon this gem in the comics section:


Not really sure what it means when comic strip characters are cruising around on track bikes. And am I missing the joke? I don't get it at all...

    you dont get the joke? the joke is the single speed comment and how it could be used for the bike you his swimming speed "
