30 Century Man
Saw the photos in The Rig Out issue III, didn't know there was a video also. Around-the-world cyclist James Bowthorpe, filmed by Antony Crook in Norway, dressed for Oi Polloi/The Rig Out by Glenn Kitson, music by Mogwai. Perfect.
Happy Christmas, see you in the new year!

New Six-Eleven Bicycle Co. Cross Bike
Sage just got this ridiculously nice cross frame from Aaron at Six-Eleven Bicycle Co., and I am jealous. Aaron won Rookie Builder of the Year at NAHBS last year, so definitely check out his booth in Austin in February, it's going to be great!
More photos of Sage's bike here and check out Six-Eleven Bicycle Co. here.
The Afterglow Afterparty
Tomorrow is the Afterglow cross race in Chicago, and after the Afterglow is the Afterparty. BE THERE!
First to the Line!
I recently got a copy of First to the Line, a brilliant bike racing card game, from its developer Rich, and I love it.
It's easily the best approximation of racing that I've played in a board or card game, and there are plenty of racing games out there. Initially, the rules took a little getting used to, but with great cards like Sticky Bottle and Surf the Team Cars, and lots of variety of road types, the game is both simple and complex.
If you're a cyclist who likes board or card games, check it out here.

Red Bull Tiny Single Person Track
The Red Bull Mini Drome that will be coming to London soon has already made a couple of appearances around the world, notably in Auckland. Here are a couple of pics:
From here.
From here.
I suppose I don't really understand why, in a city where there's already a functioning, normal sized velodrome (you know, a velodrome capable of handling more than one rider at a time, so that people can, wait for it, race against each other), Red Bull would feel the need to build this tiny "let's put two weird quarter pipes facing each other and call it a velodrome" velodrome. It's probably that real velodromes aren't that much fun unless they have some Red Bull branding on them... This does look kind of fun, though.
[edit] Just realised that Tracko had video footage of this up months ago!

The Afterglow
Chicago Cuttin' Crew and the Half-Acre Cycling think that you could do with more cross in your life. One last race before the season ends. Saturday, December 18th, Humboldt Park, Chicago. Pre-registration is up at BikeReg. See you there!
Illinois State Cyclocross Championships
Yesterday was the last race in the ChiCrossCup calendar, and it was also the Illinois State Championships. The temperature was well below freezing, the course was covered in snow and ice, there were more racers than at any other race this year, and it was a blast! Even though I fell on the ice so much that I can barely feel my legs this morning, it was definitely worth it. If you haven't raced cross then you're missing out.
The 4As set off.
Running the treacherous corner/hill that took out a lot of racers, including me.
Powering towards the bridge in one of the few straight sections.
The Chicago Cuttin' Crew Professional Heckling Squad.
Andrew and Sage of Team Pegasus with the team flag. Noticed attached dollar bills.
Professional ping-pong player and part-time cyclocross badass James LaLonde. Came second in the 1/2/3s on a single-speed. A lot of hyphens in this caption.
The crowd at the bridge.
Riding the ice.
Fishing for cyclists.
I have a lot of photos of this hill. Deal with it.
Almost caught one!
The good news is this wasn't the last race in Chicago this year. Details on the Afterglow to follow.

Cyclocross Bingo
This is great. I've definitely seen all of these things at the ChiCrossCup races this season.
Thanks to Sage for the heads-up. He saw it over at Tati Cycles.

Chicago Cranksgiving I
Here's the flyer for the first of two Cranksgiving races happening in Chicago this year. Cranksgiving is always a fun race, and the craziness that goes on in the grocery stores, as people race to buy food and check out faster than other racers, has to be seen to be believed. So RACE THIS! Sunday, November 21st, registration beings at 2.30pm at 500 W. Madison.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how short and steep "the world's smallest velodrome" will actually be. More details at Bike Radar and the official site here.

Ride Track
So, Prolly and Tracko have already mentioned this, but apparently there's a chance that Brooklyn could get its own velodrome. Like I need another reason to want to move to there. Anyway, in a post about the Brooklyn plans, Tracko posted this vid from British Cycling, which has me excited about track season... and it's only November.
Bella Biciclette in Boston
Superb Bicycle are having a vintage bike show at the shop in Boston, so if you're in the area check it out. You have to RSVP and the details are here, so get on it, and send us some photos afterward!

English vs Hoy
Save Herne Hill
A while ago I posted about visiting Herne Hill velodrome when I was living in London. It's a great old track, with tons of history and is the only velodrome in London, but sadly it's a bit run down, and it looks like without some serious financial help the track will have to close. Check out the campaign to save Herne Hill velodrome here and here.
Thanks to Tracko for bringing the campaign to our attention!

Chris Hoy Defeated by Irishman
Irish track racer Felix English celebrates after beating Chris Hoy (!?!?!) in the 1/16th round of the Men's Sprint at the European Championships today, knocking Hoy out of the competition! Hoy had pulled ahead of English, but then slowed down in order, he says, to conserve some energy and so as not to embarrass his opponent, when all of a sudden the Irish rider sprinted past him for the win. Oh dear!
C'mon Ireland!

LA Cross Clinic
Juice Cycling Club and So Cal Cross are running a cyclocross clinic in LA tomorrow with Ryan Trebon. Meet up at Orange20 at 4.30pm, head to the course for the clinic, then back to Orange20 for pizza and beer. The pizza won't be as good as Pequod's, but I'm sure it'll still be a good time.

More Landis Shenanigans.
An international arrest warrant has just been issued for Floyd Landis, charging him with "fraudulently breaking into a computer system" in search of documents from the French Anti-Doping Laboratory! This guy is a real winner. Full story.
