Racing for Six Days...

Of course, I should have known that the team over at Keirin Berlin would come through with some spectacular coverage of the 99th Berlin Six Day event. Totally brilliant shots (photos by Maria Laub) of all the action, with behind-the-scenes stuff you won't get anywhere else.

Mort and the guys know track racing, and Maria takes amazing photos. Head over to the Keirin Berlin page to check it all out.

FIAC Women's Six Day National Championships

Congratulations to Val Brostrom of Chicago team Bouledogue Tout Noir, and her partner Dena Eaton from L.A., for winning the FIAC Women's Six Day National Championships at Alpenrose velodrome last week. Way to go, Salome!

6 Days

I saw this brilliant poster on Prolly's blog the other day, and it got me thinking. Why not have a return to epic 6 day racing at the home of the event, Madison Square Garden in NYC? London are planning on having a 6 next year, and 6s all over mainland Europe sell out weeks in advance, so why not NYC? Okay, maybe not at the Garden, but certainly there's enough interest in track bikes right now that a well publicized 6 day event could be successful. Hopefully someone will bring the Madison home soon, but in the meantime check out the Alpenrose 6 day event in Oregon.

Ghent 6-Day

Thanks to Peter Broad for emailing me his pictures of the Ghent 6-Day event. Man, this looks like so much feckin' fun! So many people are crowded into the infield! It's hard to believe that events like this took place all across America, when track racing was the biggest spectator sport in the country. Bigger than baseball. No joke.

I don't know if there are any plans to bring 6-Days back to the US, but there's going to be one in London next year. Details here. Thanks again to Peter for the photos!
