Penrose Pics

A few photos from the last couple of weeks of racing at Penrose Park Velodrome here in St. Louis. A lot of them are from the night we did match sprints, which was a blast. All photos by Kent Lindemann. Thanks for letting me post these, Kent.

SLOW BIKE RACE!!!

Actually, it's a Longest Lap race: first lap must not be completed before 6 mins has elapsed (meaning that if you cross the line before 6 mins, you're out, and you also can't put your foot down or ride backwards). As soon as that 6 mins is up, the official will blow a whistle, and everyone still remaining has to do an all-out sprint to the finish. The fun part is that you're not allowed look at a watch or timer, so you've no idea when the 6 mins is up, but you want to get as closed to the end of the first lap as possible, so that you've less distance to sprint when the time is up. I got second (hot pink kit, son!) Fun times!

Just a few pics, out of the blue, of the racing last week at the completely rebuilt and absolutely fantastic Penrose Park Velodrome in St. Louis. It is smooth an fast AF! All Chicago/Kenosha/Midwest trackies need to take a trip down to STL some week to race. Details HERE.

Condor World Champ Series

Venerable UK frame company Condor Cycles have come up with a cool way to celebrate the 80th birthday of its founder, Monty Young. They are releasing a limited edition run of vintage style, lugged steel, World Champ stripe themed frames. In total, only 150 framesets will produced, in road or track versions, and each comes with a World Champ edition Selle San Marco Concor and matching bar tape. Nice.

Cinelli to re-issue Laser track frameset!

I just saw over at Bike Rumor that Cinelli will be reissuing the classic Laser track frameset soon in a limited production run of about 300 or so.

‘Today thanks to the rebirth of steel and people like yourselves, a dream is about to be realised: the Cinelli Laser will return. Not just as a museum display, but as a track machine; rigid and lively, more so even than its predecessor 20 years ago. All the original protagonists are ready and motivated; Andrea Pesenti who built 300 throughout the 1980’s, myself Antonio Colombo who thought them up, Paolo Erzegovesi who engineered them, and Emilvano Montorio who pulled out the tubes. New in the band will be Alessandra Cusatelli, my partner, and Cinelli design co-ordinator of the last 10 years. As always, it will only be available in limited editions. The kids are alright!”

Pretty crazy! I can't wait to see more details. I wonder if the insane geometry will be updated any? Regardless, hopefully the Cinelli team will be reissuing the the official uniforms to match as well...

Vandedrome For Sale
The Vandedrome has been redesigned (with wider turns) and the steel understructure is now restored and powder-coated. It needs a new racing surface. We’ve been unable to find a site and our plans are at a standstill. The track is being offered to another group for only the costs of moving it to their site. This project has great potential and the costs to complete it are minimal. I am personally willing to further invest my time and knowledge to help someone else make a success with it.
