Munich Super Sprints

Just got an email from Kevin in Munich, Germany, letting me know about some sprints happening there this weekend. This will be the first night of a sprints series, with the second night happening sometime in the next two weeks. Straight line drag-race style sprints are always great, so if you're in Bavaria then get yourself to Munich. If the racing is as good as the flyer, it'll be a blast (plus, lots of prizes, including caps from the always awesome Cognition.) Details here.

Rollapaluza Donkey Derby

Does anyone actually race bikes anymore, or is it just roller racing these days? Seriously, I never get emails about track meets or alleycats anymore, just roller races. I suppose it is winter. Plus, these are the only races you can have in a pub, but still...

Wheels of Glory III

The Wheels of Glory III roller race night will happen on March 11th, at Atomic Cowboy in St. Louis, MO. It starts at 7pm, costs $5, and the proceeds go to charity. This is your last chance to destroy your friends and enemies at sprints, because with the winter almost done, outdoor races are about to take over. For all the details, and to see Chris' photos from the NAHBS, head over to STLSprints.

Wheels of Glory II

Not a ton of track racing going on in the Midwest right now, given that the velodromes are under a few feet of snow, but there are a lot of roller races happening, like the Wheels of Glory series in St. Louis:

OpenSprints

Since I posted about the IROSprints series in Chicago, I've been getting emails from people interested in putting on roller race nights in their own cities, but who don't know how to do it, or think they don't have the money for an expensive set up. Well, the good news is that the awesome team responsible for IROSprints have been working on open source software (ie: FREE) and affordable hardware that will allow anyone to put on roller races. The system is called OpenSprints, and it's about bringing GoldSprints to the masses. If you are interested in hosting your own roller race night, check out the OpenSprints page.

IRO Sprints Report

The first night of IRO Sprints at the Cobra Lounge in Chicago was a huge success. Outside, snow lay fresh on the ground. Inside, fifty-four people raced and hundreds cheered. Check out these photos from Chris Dilts and Ed White.

There were some impressive results. Team Pegasus members Brandon, Hannah and BenVC all came out on top. Brandon and Hannah won the brackets, while Ben posted the fastest time of the night in his semi-final match up against Jeff Perkins of the Chicago Cuttin' Crew, and then came second to Brandon in the final. A Pegasus clean sweep. Proper order.

Remember, there are two more nights of this mayhem left, on the 15th and the 22nd of December. The fastest male and female of the series win a frame each! There are a bunch of other prizes too, so don't sleep.

Thanks again to Chris and Ed for their photos, and well done to Evan, Luke and the rest of the crew for putting on a great night.
