East Bay Velodrome Petition
With the number of track bike riders in the Bay Area, it doesn't really make sense that Hellyer is the closest track. Help the East Bay Velodrome Committee make a credible case to their local government that a velodrome should be built in the area. Sign the petition here.
Thanks to the Macaframa crew for the heads-up.

Berlin 6 Day Photos
Keirin Berlin have some great photos of the Berlin 6 up on their site. A packed house of fans, drinking good beer and watching bonkers track action like the stayer races and the madison on a 250m track? Sounds like my kind of night out. Check out more of their photos here.

The Trixie? Really?
I mean, it looks useful enough, but the name? Anyway, it's got a lockring tool, a 15mm wrench, a 5mm hex, and the ubiquitous bottle opener. The Pedro Trixie should be available here soon. Originally seen on BikeRadar, who, I feel I must warn you, use the word fixie a lot...

At first, I was skeptical, but now I think I'd really like some small scale models of my bikes. The Pedal ID bike kits are now available at Yojimbo's Garage.

The Tweed Run
150 cyclists riding through London, all dressed in tweed. Bertie Wooster would have loved it. Thanks to Roxy for the excellent photos, and to Zack for noticing the story on Arkitip first. Some good photos over on Tracko too.

Pedal Speed Mag Launch Party
The people over at Kinfolk are hosting a launch party for a new Japanese track bike/fixed gear mag, Pedal Speed, on Wednesday, January 28th, at Le Baron de Paris (ooh la la!), Tokyo, Japan. One of these days, I'll get to visit Japan, and unlike my mate Fletch, I won't go boozing the night before I'm due to go, lose my passport and all my money, and have to get an emergency passport to travel. Feckin' drunkard.

Velocity 2009
Hell yes!! It looks like the Velocity 2009 tour, presented by CycleHawk, will be the biggest yet, with plans to visit 8 cities! The dates for LA (April 19th), San Franciso (June 26th) and New York (July 25th) are set, while the dates for Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, Portland, and Toronto are TBA. If you live in any of these places, you MUST go to Velocity. It is, hands down, the single funnest day of track racing you can have, and is both a great introduction for beginners and a good day's racing for the experienced. Squid, you're a star. More details here.

Cervélo TestTeam
From the Castelli kits to the Catlike helmets, the Cervélo TestTeam are definitely going to be one of the more stylish teams in the peleton next year. Picture above are Norweigian sprint beast Thor Hushovd and Irishman (yay!) Philip Deignan. Photo by Shane Stokes, seen over on Prendas.

Light Lane
This has been out for a minute, but my brother just emailed me about it so I wanted to give him props. Thanks, Paul! He saw it over here. (Although, a certain lighting nerd I know *cough*Aaron*cough* suggests that the Light Lane setup would have difficultly generating enough light to be easily seen by motorists. Still, it's a nice idea.)
Bags
Here are a couple of nice custom messenger bags. The Stevie Wonder bag is from ReLoad, and is part of their Music Tribute series, and the Milwaukee Bicycle Co. bag is from Bens/Crumpler. Both are sweet, the Stevie one especially. Stevie is God.

Chris Hoy is Sound
Interesting article about Chris Hoy in The Guardian about fame, honours, and winning multiple gold medals at the Olympics. Sounds like he has his ego firmly in check. One of his coaches, Chris Sutton, says "'success changes some people but not Chris – same with this. He might be Sir Chris, quadruple Olympic champion, but he's the same fella.'
To illustrate the point, two days after his knighthood was announced, Hoy and Jason Kenny, the Olympic gold and silver medallist, travelled to Holland for the Six Days of Rotterdam, alone and unsupported – with no coach or mechanic. Thus could Hoy be seen in track centre, spanner in hand, making adjustments to his bike – the equivalent would be to see Lewis Hamilton lying under his F1 car." Wrenching for himself. Sound as a pound, wha'? Read more here.

Pepper Spray For Cyclists
This is probably the strangest "cycling specific" product I've ever seen. Competitive Cyclist is marketing the Kimber PepperBlaster as pepper spray for cyclists. Not, like, for use against cyclists, but for use by cyclists, against angry drivers, for example. Alrighty then! If you feel the need to carry some of this in your jersey pocket at your next training ride, get it here.
