American Women Set World Record

The US Women's Pursuit team of Sarah Hammer (pictured), Dotsie Bausch and Lauren Tamayo set a new unofficial world at the Panamerican Championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico recently, with a time of 3:19.569, almost two full seconds faster than the previous team pursuit time. Merckx's Hour Record

Exactly 36 years ago, on the 25th of October, 1972, Eddy Merckx set a world hour record of 49.431km in a velodrome in Mexico City. That remains an impressive distance. Chapeau!

No Seat?

These pics are old, but pretty crazy nonetheless. This is Maas Van Beek setting a new hour world record on the track... seatless. An hour. Seatless! I can definitely think of more pleasant ways of spending an hour, but fair play to him anyway.

1000km Record

Chicago area cyclist and RAAM finisher Bryce Walsh is attempting to break two records this weekend at the Northbrook velodrome: the outdoor 1000km record, and the 24hr distance record. Wat. I mean, technically, I suppose I like bikes, but 1000km? 24hrs?? No freaking thank you. Bryce's record attempt starts at 10am, Saturday, Aug 23rd. I'm sure the guy is going to need a lot of support to keep him going that long, so everyone should head up to Northbrook and cheer for him. More details on his website here.
