Rapha Fastest Mechanic Comp Photos

It just so happens that my brother, who recently moved to NYC, was at the Rapha Fastest Mechanic competition yesterday and took these photos. Thanks for letting me put them up, Paul!

The place: the Rapha Cycle Club in NYC.

The crowd.

The prize.

None of this "let's just put together a track bike," these guys had to fully assemble a road bike.

Wrench.

The winner of the Rapha Fastest Mechanic competition: José from Sid's Bikes.

Paul Smith for Rapha

Rapha just released a new line of Paul Smith designed luxury luggage and accessories (Did you know he was into cycling?).

It's a sharp looking collection as you'd expect. Although I will admit, I bought a Paul Smith wallet from the Triumph series he did a few seasons back and was thoroughly disappointed in the quality. Maybe I'm just unusually hard on wallets or it was just a fluke?

See more here.

1969 Giro Poster

The Rapha blog just turned up this fantastic Giro d'Italia poster from 1969:

So cool!

If you're in London, you can pick one up here. New Yorkers can wait patiently and hope a Rapha pop-up shop turns up sometime soon...

Rapha Cycle Club London

Hey, Rapha, cheers for opening this right after I leave London. Sound. The Rapha Cycle Club will have a cafe for pre-ride espressos, a shop to buy Rapha gear, and a gallery for cycling photos and art. Also, and this is key, it will host live screenings of racing all summer long, starting with the opening stage of the Giro d'Italia tomorrow, May 8th. A New York City cycle club is set to open later in the year. Details here.

I spy...

I see a couple people with waaaay more discipline than I have made it out to the Rapha Gentleman's Ride last Sunday.

Bravo gentlemen!

Seen on the Rapha blog

I've got a lot to debrief about the show, but I'll save that for next week. I'm still recovering from everything. In short though, it was amazing!

Rapha in Richmond

In the coming days, you are going to be seeing so many reasons why you should be heading to RVA for NAHBS. There really is no excuse not to go- and as if you don't already have enough reasons, here's another: Rapha, who will be exhibiting their 2010 collection at NAHBS, is host a Gentleman's Ride on Sunday morning with the help of Carytown Bicycle Company. Should be a great way to check out some of the Richmond riding.
Here's the details from Rapha:
GENTLEMEN'S RIDE
We also invite you to join us on the Sunday morning of the show where a group of us including Rapha Continental riders, framebuilders and partners will take an easy Gentlemen's Ride through the Richmond hills with the help of the folks at Carytown Bicycle Company.

We will depart from the show hotel (Richmond Marriott, 500 East Broad Street) at 7:30am. Meet us at 7:00am for coffee and pastries.

7am might be a bit early for this guy (especially if the party Saturday night goes as planned- more on that soon!), but I'm sure it'll be great if you can make it out!

Favourite Shirts Exhibition

If you're in LA this weekend, you should head over to Paul Smith's shop on Melrose where, starting this Saturday, May 9th, there'll be an exhibition of classic cycling jerseys to mark this year's Giro d'Italia. Held in conjunction with Rapha and Rouleur, the exhibition will run till May 31th. Miles, you should go to this and take some photos for me. All the details are here.

Also, anyone know if Lance will be riding the Giro? I'm a little out of touch right now...
