Irish Olympians

The Olympics start today, and there are four Irish cyclists participating. Nicholas Roche (Crédit Agricole) and Philip Deignan (AG2R) are in the Men's Road Race tomorrow, Robin Seymour (Team WORC) is competing in the Men's Mountain Biking, and, of course, David O'Loughlin (Pezula Racing) is competing in the Men's 4000M Individual Pursuit on the track, with his first round in the Olympic velodrome next Saturday, Aug. 16th. David is in with a real shout at a medal, having improved his time from that which earned him 6th place at the Track Cycling World Championships in Manchester a few months ago. An Irish track cycling Olympic medal? That would be feckin' deadly. C'mon Davo!!

It looks like the Blues Brothers race in Chicago was a ton of fun. They even had a BluesMobile! Well done to Adam and Josh for organizing it. Check out more of Matt's pics here, and Gavin's pics here. Now, for reals, you all need to stop having fun till I get there. I was fine with being away when you were all sitting in Chicago and freezing during the winter, but now that everyone's out and about and racing and going to bicycle film festivals, suddenly I'm not so okay with it. So cut it out.

Fixed-Gear Travel Bike

Thanks to Miss Casual for bringing this sweet fixed-gear travel bike to my attention. Made by Freeman Transport, the olive-drab bike comes with S&S couplings, so it breaks down easy, and a really nice military style canvas and leather bag to pack it into. I could have done with this a couple of months ago... gah!

European Cycle Messenger Championships Report

Congratulations to Michael Brinkmann from Bremen and Astrid Narud from Berlin for winning the European Cycle Messenger Championships! I swear this is just a coincidence, but some kids from Minneapolis are throwing a Star Wars themed race with the tag line Hipsters on Hoth.
