Indoor Velodrome for Boulder

Boulder, CO is getting an indoor velodrome. It's also getting an indoor mountain bike park, all in the same facility. In an audacious plan that, frankly, sounds a bit mental, Rodrigo Garcia, a local indoor sports impresario, is building a 50,000 square foot indoor biking center that will feature, get this, a 142m track with 45 degree banking. Just read that last bit again, slowly. 142m track. 45 degree banking. That's nuts! I don't think it's open yet, but when it is I expect to see reports of the insanity from the Cycle Jerks and the kids from the Track Shack.

The structure.

Laying down a turn.

The straight.

A finished turn.

Thanks to Cale for the heads-up! More details of the park here, and at its homepage here.

Hi There.

It will be a great place to race.
Calshot in the South of England is also 142m long. You can stand in the centre of the corner and reach out with a finger to touch the banking.
The 'g' forces coming out of the banking take a bit of getting used to but it makes for exciting racing, takes a toll on your arms though.

According to Wiki there is a 138m track in Canada.

As much as I like the idea of a new track, I think these sub-200m velodromes are too small. I know indoor space is at a premium, so that's the limiting factor, but it's just not representative of what a track *should* be (e.g. how do you do a 200m time trial? Standing starts? Madisons would be interesting.). Props to them for actually making the moves to DO something, though.

Thanks Steve!
Calshot is on a spit of land/ ex military base and has lots of youth programs... From what I hear.
Have you been there? Sounds like you've ridden there...

Simon- have you been to Calshot?

Nope, never been Marcus, but it is famous for its winter league and its junior programmes. Hopefully I'll get to check it out sometime.
