New East Coast velodromes in the works...

In non-Sean Kelly cycling news, there's some exciting stuff in the works on the east coast. Late last month, Rock Hill, SC (just outside of Charlotte NC) is about to break ground on an Olympic training center that will house a state-of-the-art velodrome and BMX track. Exciting stuff since the mid-Atlantic is kind of a dead spot in the world of track cycling. Currently, there are no velodromes between ATL and T-Town, unless you count the few random oil-soaked 500m stock car tracks that occasionally host track events.

And when it rains, it pours. Earlier this year Richmond also announced that they were trying to pass plans to start construction on their own Olympic training center that would focus on track cycling and speed skating (pfft). I'm not sure where the current status is, but as of May 09, all systems are go. So look for big things in the track world on the east coast in the 2013 season (ha!)
